Dedicated Podiatrists: Dr. Dean Dorfman & Dr. Dominick Sansone
Plantar fasciitis is the number one cause of heel pain. It is often successfully treated with options such as custom orthotics, injections, prescription medications, physical therapy, and immobilization. Plantar fasciitis is often confused with heel spurs. Heel spurs however, generally do not cause heel pain on their own. Although plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain, the condition can determine if your heel pain may be due to other causes including nerve or tendon problems.
Dr. Dorfman & Dr. Sansone, the heel pain doctors at East Ocean Podiatry, can treat heel pain with conservative treatment options if it is detected early on. However, typically the longer heel pain goes untreated, the more difficult it is to successfully treat.
The heel pain doctors at East Ocean Podiatry recommend taking the following steps to avoid heel pain:
- Wearing shoes that fit well
- Wearing the proper shoes for each activity
- Avoid wearing shoes with excessive or unevenly worn heels or soles
- Prepare properly before exercising
When prevention is not enough, Dr. Dorfman and Dr. Sansone, the heel pain doctors at East Ocean Podiatry, provide the most advance heel pain treatment options for our patients. This includes Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT), which is used to treat chronic heel pain (plantar fasciitis). This therapy is a safe and effective alternative treatment for heel pain and only requires a short recovery time. Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy is a brief procedure lasts about 10 minutes and is performed without local anesthesia. Strong sound waves are directed at and penetrate the heel area to stimulate a healing response by the body.
Dr. Dorfman and Dr. Sansone, the heel pain doctors at East Ocean Podiatry, can help diagnosis and create an individualized heel pain treatment plan that is right for you.
